Will Darshan be released to attend Upendra’s UI event in Bengaluru?
Recently, rumors surfaced that Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa might be temporarily released from jail to attend an event for Upendra’s much-awaited film UI. However, these speculations are not true, as no court has issued such an order. Darshan is currently in judicial custody due to his involvement in the Renukaswamy murder case.
Darshan, along with Pavithra Gowda and others, has been held in Ballari prison since their arrest. They are accused of being involved in the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, who was allegedly sending inappropriate messages to Pavithra. Renukaswamy was kidnapped, brutally beaten, and killed in June. The actor’s judicial custody has been extended until September 17, with no indications of release.
Recently, Darshan and 16 other accused appeared before the court through video conferencing from various prisons in Karnataka. The police had earlier submitted a 3,991-page preliminary charge sheet on September 4, detailing the case. Despite public rumors, Darshan remains in jail, and no legal permission has been granted for him to attend any public events.

Previously, Darshan was held at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, but he was transferred to Ballari prison following the release of a controversial photo. The image showed Darshan interacting with a few others, including a rowdy-sheeter, causing a public outcry. This incident prompted the authorities to relocate him.
As for the movie UI, it has faced delays in release, despite initial plans to launch it on Upendra’s birthday, September 18. The delay is due to unfinished post-production work and promotional activities. There has been speculation about a grand promotional event, but Darshan’s participation remains unlikely given his current legal situation.
