Why Rajamouli dropped his film with Chiranjeevi?
Renowned writer Vijayendra Prasad recently made surprising comments about why a film featuring Megastar Chiranjeevi and director SS Rajamouli never materialized. Fans have always wondered what it would be like if these two worked together, but according to Prasad, a major obstacle prevented it.
Rajamouli initially planned to make a film with Chiranjeevi and even narrated a story to him. This story later became Magadheera, a blockbuster featuring Ram Charan. Prasad revealed that the idea of a warrior fighting a hundred men was first pitched to Chiranjeevi. “When Chiranjeevi heard the idea, he got goosebumps and asked us to develop the full story,” Prasad said.
However, things took a turn when filmmaker Vijay Bapineedu got involved. He took Rajamouli and Prasad to Chiranjeevi’s house and later gifted them a small box worth six rupees. “At that moment, I realized this project wouldn’t work,” Prasad stated. Bapineedu then advised them that Chiranjeevi’s strength lay in commercial films like Gang Leader, not historical or mythological films.
After this, Rajamouli discussed the situation with Prasad. “If we do this project, we will always face conflicts. We will have no peace of mind,” Rajamouli reportedly said. With this realization, the project was shelved, and Magadheera was later made with Ram Charan instead.
Currently, Rajamouli is working on SSMB 29 with Mahesh Babu, an international action-adventure film set in African jungles. Meanwhile Chiranjeevi is filming Vishwambhara, a socio-fantasy movie directed by Vashishta, set for a pan-India release.
Fans still wonder what a Chiranjeevi-Rajamouli film would have looked like, but Prasad’s words suggest it was never meant to be.
