While the entire world has been praising SS Rajamouli’s directorial ‘RRR’, this Malayalam filmmaker has a different take on this epic blockbuster. Well, the Malayalam industry is a different tribe altogether. And their body of work reflects a lot about their craft and their vision on visual storytelling. Their ideology, philosophy and culture keep reflecting in their movies.
Undoubtedly, their artistic vision push audiences in deep thinking even after leaving a cinema hall. Their masterpieces leave a lasting impact. That’s their forte in the craft. Infusing art with commercial elements — is something hailed all across the world. But why these people are unfazed by the craze of neighbouring film industries like Telugu and Tamil?
This noted Mollywood director Adoor Gopalakrishnan says he doesn’t want to watch ‘RRR’ because he knew he wouldn’t like it. Although Adoor is not familiar to present-day movie lovers, he brought a reform of sorts to Malayalam cinema back in those days. He just directed 12 films but secured several National Awards and Kerala State Awards.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Adoor said, “I don’t want to watch ”RRR’ from what I heard from people. I don’t want to pay for a film I don’t approve of.” He further added that theatres would soon be closed forever because of the emergence of OTT platforms. And watching a movie in a theatre is a devotion and the experience will be gone as a consequence, he said.
