Anirudh replaced AR Rahman:

Director S. Shankar is preparing for the release of Indian 2 featuring Kamal Haasan. The news of Anirudh Ravichander replacing the iconic AR Rahman as the music composer has surprised many fans of Rahman.

Shankar recently explained why he chose Anirudh over Rahman. In a media interaction, he shared that when work on Indian 2 began, Rahman was already busy with the background music for “2.0”. Shankar needed the songs for “Indian 2” quickly and didn’t want to overburden Rahman. He also expressed his admiration for Anirudh’s music, which was very popular at the time. Shankar thought it was a good opportunity to work with Anirudh, whose music he liked.

The question of what the film would have been like with Rahman’s music is a topic of much debate. However, Anirudh has been receiving a lot of praise for his work on the film, including the songs and the trailer.

During the music launch event in Chennai in June, Anirudh addressed the issue of replacing Rahman. He humorously quoted a famous Rajinikanth dialogue from Shankar’s 2007 film “Sivaji: The Boss”: “After six, comes seven… but who comes after Rahman sir?” He acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the sequel, which comes 28 years after the first film. Anirudh also mentioned that Rahman’s music is a source of inspiration for him.

“Indian 2” features not just Kamal Haasan but also Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and SJ Suryah in significant roles. The film is set to release on July 12, 2024.
