During the promotion of her movie Yashoda, Samantha Ruth Prabhu opened up for the first time about her diagnosis of myositis which is a rare inflammatory disease that affects the muscles. In an emotional interview, she shared the struggles she has been facing due to this condition. It was a moment of vulnerability revealing the challenges she encounters daily and her determination to fight through them.
Samantha candidly discussed how myositis has made some of her days extremely difficult with even basic tasks like getting out of bed becoming a challenge. Despite this, she mentioned that her resilience has grown over time. The number of days where she feels strong enough to confront these challenges has gradually increased giving her hope and determination to keep going.
In an interview, Samantha said “There are some good days and some bad days. On some days getting up from bed is difficult. But on some days I want to fight. Slowly, the days I want to fight are becoming more.” This statement encapsulates her battle with the disease showing her resolve to not let it defeat her.
During the conversation, the Citadel actress became visibly emotional especially when talking about the public’s reaction to her condition. She clarified that myositis, in her case is not life-threatening although it has been portrayed in a more dramatic light by some media outlets. She expressed her frustration over the exaggerated headlines, stating, “At the moment, I’m not dead yet. I don’t think those headlines were very necessary, but yeah it is difficult but I am here.”
In 2022 Samantha took to Instagram to share a heartfelt note about her condition. Initially, she planned to talk about it only after she had fully recovered. However, as the recovery process was taking longer than expected, she decided to open up about her ongoing battle.

For those unfamiliar with the condition myositis is a group of inflammatory muscle diseases characterized by muscle weakness, inflammation, and damage. It can be caused by autoimmune diseases, infections, injuries, or even certain medications.
Despite her health challenges, Samantha continues to work on her upcoming projects. She is set to appear in the web series Citadel: Honey Bunny, alongside Varun Dhawan which will stream on Amazon Prime starting November 7. She is also working on a film titled Bangaram.
