When Rajinikanth helped Vijay enter the film industry

Vijay who is one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars had a challenging journey before becoming an actor. Even though his father, SA Chandrasekhar was a well-known filmmaker, he was not in favor of Vijay pursuing an acting career. However, superstar Rajinikanth played a key role in changing his father’s mind.

During a 2010 event, Vijay shared how he convinced his father. He admitted that he was not very good at studies and wanted to enter the film industry after finishing school. But his father was hesitant, fearing the struggles of the profession. To prove his passion, Vijay recreated a famous dialogue from Rajinikanth’s movie Annamalai. The powerful dialogue, which talked about overcoming challenges, was recorded on video and shown to his father. Impressed by his dedication, SA Chandrasekhar agreed to launch Vijay in the 1992 film Naalaiya Theerpu.

Even after his debut, Vijay’s father remained strict, testing him with challenging scenes alongside veteran actors. However, Vijay proved his talent and determination, eventually becoming one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema. His admiration for Rajinikanth continued, and he even picked Naan Sigappu Manidhan, a Rajinikanth film directed by his father, as his favorite from his father’s filmography.
