When Jr NTR left James Gunn in awe with his performance

SS Rajamouli’s epic film RRR earned worldwide acclaim by attracting audiences globally. Among its admirers was James Gunn, the director of Superman who was amazed by Jr NTR’s powerful performance. In 2023, Gunn admitted in an interview that he was spellbound by the film and Jr NTR’s talent.

Referring to the iconic tiger scene, he expressed his desire to collaborate with the actor in the future calling him amazing and cool. In an interview, Gunn shared his admiration, saying, “Who is the guy from RRR that’s so good… What’s his name? RRR, the big one from last year? With all the tigers coming out of the cage and everything? That guy!” He further expressed his desire to collaborate with the actor, adding, “I would love to work with that guy someday. So amazing, so cool.”

Gunn wasn’t alone in his admiration. Actor Andrew Garfield also praised RRR during a conversation, sharing how the film introduced him to Indian cinema. He mentioned bonding with Zoya Akhtar over their shared love for the movie and described its impact as like a tiger breaking through the screen. He said, “We were talking about American cinema, British cinema, and Indian cinema, and we were bonding over our mutual love for RRR.”

Released in 2022, RRR is a period action drama featuring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgn. Directed by Rajamouli, the film became a global sensation with its song Naatu Naatu winning an Oscar for Best Original Song. Its success underscored Indian cinema’s potential to connect with international audiences.
