The heart of every film lies in the story and the actors cast for the pivotal roles; the need for this is all the more apparent in a remake of a successful film like Andhadhun. While one already had doubts if Merlapaka Gandhi was the right choice to helm the Telugu remake of the film, the decision to rope in Tamannaah to reprise the role played by Tabu hasn’t helped the project much.
The soul and the quirky element in Andhadhun lied in the unconventional relationship between the middle-aged woman and a young man and it looks like the Telugu remake will undergo many changes in the script to suit the inclusion of Tamannaah. While no one has any doubts about Tamannaah’s potential as a performer, imagine someone like a Tabu or a Ramya Krishna in the role? This blatantly tells why middle-aged women don’t get worthy roles in Telugu films anymore.
While Nabha Natesh’s presence in the place of Radhika Apte isn’t a bad choice at all, one wonders if Mahati Swara Sagar as the composer would make the cut to tell a story that’s essentially a musical. Amit Trivedi’s mind-blowing score was so integral to the impact of Andhadhun and Mahati has his work cut out if he desires to make a similar impression on viewers. N Sudhakar Reddy and Nikitha Reddy are producing the film under Sreshth Movies.
