Kumararaja had originally offered the role to two other actresses who turned it down before approaching Samantha. Despite this, Samantha delivered an outstanding performance making the character her own. She mentioned that while working with the director the most takes she ever needed for a scene was around five.
Super Deluxe released in 2019 was Kumararaja’s second film coming eight years after his first. The movie was well-received, earning critical acclaim for its compelling story and stellar performances from the cast. Alongside Samantha, the film featured prominent actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Ramya Krishnan, Mirnalini Ravi and Gayathrie Shankar.
