Throwback to when Sekhar Kammula said Nayanthara was wrong choice for his film

Actress Nayanthara is one of the most prominent actresses in the film industry, maintaining her popularity even after more than twenty years. She remains one of the highest-paid actresses in India.

Director Sekhar Kammula once expressed that casting Nayanthara in the film “Anamika” was a mistake. This 2014 film, a Telugu remake of the Bollywood movie “Kahaani,” was meant to be a women-centric project. Alongside Nayanthara, the film featured Vaibhav Reddy, Pasupathy, and Harshvardhan Rane.

Sekhar Kammula later reflected on the film as a misstep. Following the Nirbhaya incident, which shook the nation, he felt compelled to create a women-oriented film. He believed that adapting “Kahaani” would be impactful, especially with a star like Nayanthara. However, Kammula admitted that casting such a high-profile actress was a wrong decision. He acknowledged his hasty choices, driven by the urgency of the social climate at the time. Unfortunately, “Anaamika” did not perform well at the box office.
