Volunteer murder case: Ex-minister’s son arrested in Konaseema tensions

A murder case involving Durgaprasad, a volunteer from Ayanavilli, has stirred tensions in the Konaseema region. The incident, which occurred on June 6, 2022, was linked to the large-scale riots over renaming the Konaseema district after Ambedkar. The case had seen little progress during the YSRCP-led government, but it has now gained attention after the TDP-led coalition government reopened the investigation.

The police have identified Pinipe Srikanth, son of former YSRCP minister Pinipe Vishwaroop, as the main suspect. Durgaprasad and Srikanth were previously involved in party activities together. However, tensions arose when Srikanth allegedly found out that Durgaprasad had sent inappropriate messages to his family members, which may have led to Durgaprasad’s murder. A man named Ramesh, who was also questioned by the police, provided key information in the remand report.

Despite Durgaprasad’s wife filing a complaint, the investigation remained inactive under the previous government. Recently, Srikanth was arrested in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and brought back to Andhra Pradesh on a transit warrant after being presented before a judge.

Former minister Vishwaroop has criticized the arrest, accusing the TDP-led government of using the case for political gain. He claims that the coalition government is targeting his family as part of a political vendetta, and he expressed disappointment over his son’s implication in the case.

The case continues to develop, drawing attention to political tensions in the region.
