Vijayakanth, a popular actor and leader of the DMDK party, has sadly passed away at the age of 71 in a Chennai hospital. He had been battling Covid-19 and was relying on a ventilator for support.
The hospital reported, “Captain Vijayakanth was undergoing treatment on a ventilator due to pneumonia. Despite the doctors’ relentless efforts, he passed away this morning, December 28, 2023.”
He had gone to the hospital on a routine check-up last Tuesday. Initially, his party assured the public of his good health and anticipated his return home after the tests.
Earlier in November, he had been hospitalized for breathing difficulties, marking a period of health struggles.
Before entering the political arena, Vijayakanth achieved fame through a successful acting career, featuring in 154 movies. He later founded the DMDK party and served two terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
A significant highlight of his political journey was his role as the Opposition Leader in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016.
In recent times, declining health had limited Vijayakanth’s active participation in politics.
His demise marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy in both the entertainment industry and the political landscape of Tamil Nadu. Vijayakanth will be remembered for his impactful contributions to both spheres.
