Viduthalai Part 1 Movie Review

Plot

Kumaresan (Soori) is a driver in the police department who gets appointed near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. On the other hand, his superiors are leading a mission called Operation Ghost Hunt to nab Perumal (Vijay Sethupathi), who opposes the government’s decisions. The twist in the tale arises when Kumaresan discovers Perumal’s location. How will a small driver in the department help the cops nab Perumal, which forms the rest of the story?

Performances

Soori, the comedian in Tamil makes a solid transformation and shocks the audience with his cop role. Kudos to Vetrimaaran for choosing Soori to play the main lead. The young actor also performs superbly and showcases courageous emotions in the film. Vijay Sethupathi was also seen in a key role and he did his bit. But it is Soori who steals the show in the first part. Gautam Menon was also very good in his key role.

What’s Good

Soori’s performance
Realistic narration
Solid emotions

What’s bad

Routine Story
Too much violence

Analysis

Vetrimaaran is known to make social dramas in a very realistic manner and the same happens in Viduthalai Part 1 as well. He shows how cops deal with the public and how they operate in their own way. The story is simple but the way Vetrimaaran narrates it makes all the difference. The realistic narration makes you sit glued to the screen as the emotions are on point.

The manner in which an undergod played by Soori goes big in investigation looks quite good. The way, Soori’s character behaves and makes things work in his work is a special aspect of the film. Not once did we feel that Soori is a comedian. This itself shows what kind of narration Vetrimaaran has given. All the technical aspects of the film are on point.

Vetrimaaran shows his class with a four-minute single-shot scene which is just amazing. The dubbing, climax, and riveting action are also amazing. One gets a feeling that the violence is a bit too much but that gets carried away in the narration. The film has lengthy conversations and can be boring for a few Telugu-speaking audiences.

Vetrimaaran does not get to the point and takes his own time to unleash the drama. As there is a second part as well, he does not hurry and narrates the action in a detailed manner. Vijay Sethupathi will be seen more in part 2 as per the ending in one. The BGM, forest visuals, and editing is superb in the film and shows solid craftsmanship.

In a way, Viduthalai Part 1 is serious and is for those who like hard-hitting dramas. Once you get connected to solid emotions, you will end up enjoying this serious drama with great technical values.

Bottom Line – Hard Hitting and emotion-filled
