Care of Kancharapalem director Venkatesh Maha’s second film Uma Maheshwara Ugraroopasya, an official remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram, was a much-anticipated release in April before the pandemic brought the world to a standstill. The makers of the project produced jointly by Praveena Paruchuri and Shobu Yarlagadda, after much consideration, decided to release the film on OTT. Netflix had bought the streaming rights for the film and there was an official announcement that the film was to release on the platform on July 15.
However, sources close to the film have confirmed that it will not be releasing on the announced date. Though the makers haven’t confirmed the reason behind the delay, it is believed that minor technical issues have caused the same. Satyadev, Roopa Koduvayur, Hari Chandana and Naresh form the lead cast of the quirky drama. Bijibal, who has composed music for the Malayalam version of the film, has been retained for the remake as well.
Maheshinte Prathikaram had a Tamil remake in the past, titled Nimir. Filmed by Priyadarshan and featuring Udhyanidhi Stalin and Namitha Pramod, the Tamil version didn’t rake in the moolah despite rave reviews pouring in. Venkatesh Maha has reportedly tweaked the entire backdrop of the film in Uma Maheshwara… and approached it like a fresh film, however with the soul of the original retained.
