In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, US President Donald Trump has decide to temporarily suspend the immigration to the US. In connection to this, Trump will sign an executive order suspending immigration on temporary basis in the wake of new virus. “In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!” Trump said in a tweet late on Monday night.
Speaking about the suspension of immigration, it is to be seen how this would have effect on US border crossings, people who hold Green Cards and how long this would last. Meanwhile, Ali Noorani, the executive director of the National Immigration Forum tweeted, “This is not about the policy. It is about the message the president wants to send. He wants people to turn against ‘the other.’ And, regardless of the valuable contributions immigrants are making to the response and recovery, he sees immigrants as the easiest to blame”.
