In 1998, the renowned filmmaker Karan Johar made his directorial debut with the beloved film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The movie starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji, with Salman Khan making a special appearance. Interestingly, Kajol recently shared that during that period, she declined an offer from another eminent filmmaker, Mani Ratnam, known for his works like Guru, Bombay, and Roja. This was due to her prior commitment to Karan’s project.
Kajol explained, “While I was set to shoot for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I received an offer from Mani Ratnam. Although I found it hard to believe, I couldn’t accept it because my dates were already committed to Karan’s film. Even though some advised me to take up Mani sir’s offer, I believed in honouring my commitment, which eventually turned out to be a favourable decision.”
At the event, Kajol was asked to choose between two of her most iconic characters: Simran from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Her preference was for the latter. She further discussed how the portrayal of love in those characters resonated with the era they represented. She said, “Today, it’s easy to question choices like ‘Why did Anjali wear a saree?’ or ‘Why didn’t Rahul fall for her when she was in track pants?’ However, the love between Raj and Anjali was a product of its time. Love’s definition has evolved with changing times.”
Turning to her recent endeavours, Kajol was seen in the web series The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, where she convincingly played the role of Noyonika Sengupta, a lawyer fighting for her husband’s case. The series is an Indian adaptation of the popular show The Good Wife. Upcoming for Kajol is the movie Do Patti, in which she shares the screen with Kriti Sanon.
