Panorama Studios has secured the rights to remake the Malayalam films Drishyam 1 and 2 in Hollywood, making it the first Indian film to get a Hollywood remake. The original movies starred Mohanlal and have already been remade in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil. The film was remade in Telugu by Venkatesh, and it was also a super-hit. Panorama Studios is partnering with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films for the Hollywood adaptation.
Excitingly, the Drishyam franchise is not only being developed in Hollywood but also in South Korea, with discussions underway for a Spanish language version. Kumar Mangat Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director of Panorama Studios, expressed enthusiasm for sharing the Drishyam story globally. The plan is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries within the next three to five years.
Producer Abhishek Pathak, who directed Drishyam 2 in Hindi, highlighted the success of the franchise in India and praised the universal appeal of its gripping story. The original 2013 Malayalam crime thriller, directed by Jeethu Joseph, revolves around Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his family facing suspicion when the son of the Inspector General goes missing.
Gulfstream Pictures, known for films like Blended and Upgraded, expressed happiness in collaborating with Panorama Studios and JOAT Films for the English language adaptation of Drishyam. Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream Pictures look forward to bringing this timeless thriller to U.S. audiences.
JOAT Films founder Jack Nguyen acknowledged Drishyam’s unique and enduring story, resonating with global audiences and leading to numerous remakes. Both the Korean and English versions are in progress, adding to the list of remakes in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala, and Mandarin. The collaboration aims to present their own take on this cleverly crafted thriller to audiences worldwide.
