THESE two Tollywood heroes are the first choice for Indian
In 1996, Shankar’s Tamil film Indian also known as Bharateeyudu in Telugu, was released and became a huge success. Kamal Haasan portrayed the roles of father Senapati and son Chandu in this iconic movie. His performance was widely acclaimed and many consider his portrayal integral to the film’s success. Kamal Haasan truly brought the characters to life.
Interestingly, Kamal Haasan wasn’t the first choice for the roles. Director Shankar originally envisioned either Rajinikanth or Telugu actor Rajasekhar for the characters. Due to Rajinikanth’s unavailability, Shankar approached Kamal Haasan. If Kamal Haasan had turned down the offer Shankar planned to cast Rajasekhar as Senapati and Venkatesh as Chandu. It’s noteworthy that Shankar considered Venkatesh for the role of Chandu if Rajasekhar played Senapati.

However, when Shankar approached Kamal Haasan with the story he immediately accepted the roles leading to Rajasekhar not being considered further. This decision left fans speculating about how the film might have turned out with Rajasekhar instead of Kamal Haasan. Many believe that Kamal Haasan’s portrayal was irreplaceable and perfectly suited for the roles.
Meanwhile, a sequel titled “Indian 2” is scheduled for a pan-India release on July 12. Fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of the story and are curious to see how the new cast members will contribute to this beloved franchise.
