‘The Great Indian Suicide’ is the latest OTT release featuring actors Ram Karthik and Hebha Patel in the lead.
The story is about an orphan Hemanth (played by Ram Kartik) who runs a café along with his buddy in his neighbourhood. Hemanth crosses paths with a girl named Chaitra (played by Hebha Patel) who supplies cookies to his food outlet. Their friendship turns into love within no time. However, Chaitra gives a jolt to Hemanth by narrating the spine-chilling story of her family. Her entire family is committing mass suicide to save her from a curse. She says her family members are sacrificing themselves to bring back their uncle Bellari Neelakantaiah (Sr. Naresh) back to life. What does Hemanth do after listening to Chaitra’s story? Analysis
The film is a suspense thriller based on the journey of a young man. In the end, it turns into a revenge drama. Director Viplove Koneti tried to convey the message that young children are subjected to sexual assaults by their close relatives.
The Great Indian Suicide movie has depicted a realistic picture of the current world and how atrocities are committed by people who present themselves as gurus and swamijis.
The director’s idea should be hailed as he narrates how ghastly incidents take place in the name of superstitions. Starting with a love track between the lead pair, the film slowly gets into the plot. After Hemant enters Chaitra’s house, the consequences he faces are spine-chilling. With Hemant’s efforts to solve the family’s mystery, the story unfolds the twists one by one until the climax.
The Great Indian Suicide is based on real incidents occurred in Madanapalle of Chittoor district. The film is a quality one as far as production values are concerned, wrapped in a low budget. The director’s vision and idea is shot straight to the point without any beating-around-the-bush tricks. The director deserves credit for attempting to address serious issues the current society is undergoing. The film blends a love story with a revenge drama and highlights the challenges faced by young individuals who expose such wrongdoing to the public.
Performances and music
Ram Karthik and Hebha Patel have nailed superb performances in the film. The music scored by composer Sricharan Pakala, who is an old friend of director Koneti, is extraordinary. Real-life couple Naresh and Pavitra Lokesh too have given good performances.
