The Congress party’s unexpected victory in Telangana’s recent elections has left many surprised. Despite exit polls predicting this outcome, the BRS party remained confident about their chances. However, the people’s verdict was clear—they wanted the Congress to take charge this time. Amidst this, the Telugu film industry’s silence on the matter is drawing attention.
Typically, stars in the Telugu cinema industry, including leading actors, directors, and technicians, have been supportive of the Telangana government. Unlike their stance on the Andhra Pradesh government, Tollywood has consistently favored the Telangana government. Whenever the BRS government initiates something, Telugu film celebrities usually show up to show their support.
Personalities like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu, Nithiin, Nikhil, and many others have often praised the BRS government, particularly former Telangana CM KCR and former Telangana IT minister KTR. The substantial support gained by the BRS party in Hyderabad city was also amplified by tweets from these celebrities.
However, following the Congress party’s win, the backing from the Telugu film industry has noticeably faded. Apart from producer Bandla Ganesh, who has consistently voiced his support, no other figure has publicly tweeted in praise of Revanth Reddy or the Congress party.
Even though film celebrities often claim to steer clear of political matters, some level of acknowledgment was anticipated from them. If the BRS had secured a third term, social media would likely have been filled with congratulatory messages from all the top stars by now.
Moving forward, it remains to be seen how the Congress government will engage with and support the Telugu film industry.
