In South India, many celebrities have ventured into politics, including MGR, Jayalalithaa, Vijay Kanth, Kamal Haasan, and Khushbu. Recently, Thalapathy Vijay’s entry into Tamil Nadu politics has captured headlines, leading to speculations about Vishal also considering a similar move.
On February 7, Tamil actor Vishal addressed the rumors of him starting a political party. He clarified that, for now, he is not entering politics. Vishal highlighted his ongoing efforts to help people in need through his fan club, and he expressed his intention to continue this work. While he denied immediate political involvement, he hinted at the possibility of entering politics in the future.
Following Thalapathy Vijay’s announcement about his political debut, there were widespread reports suggesting Vishal might follow suit. However, Vishal’s statement on February 7 aimed to provide clarity on his current position and future plans.
He took to his Twitter and shared a post that read, “I am forever indebted to the people of Tamil Nadu who recognized me as an actor and social worker in the society. With the aim of helping people as much as I can, from the beginning, I thought that my fan club should not be treated as an average club, but it should be run to benefit people. We have been running the fan club with the aim of doing our best for those who are in need. The next step is to create a people’s welfare movement and work district-wise, constituency-wise and branch-wise. Through the ‘Devi Foundation’ run in the name of my mother, we help many poor and needy students every year. We are also helping affected farmers.”
“I meet people in many places where I go for shooting and listen to their basic needs and grievances and fulfill their demands through my people’s welfare movement. I have never expected political gains while indulging in welfare activities. If nature demands, then I will not hesitate to speak for the people in future,” he concluded.
In 2017, Vishal faced a setback in his initial venture into electoral politics during the RK Nagar bypoll election. His nomination was rejected due to having only eight valid proposers, falling short by two of the required number. This marked his first attempt in politics, which unfortunately ended prematurely. Currently, Vishal is occupied with the filming of his upcoming movie, ‘Rathnam.’
