Tamannaah Bhatia on differences between South and Bollywood films:
Tamannaah Bhati known for her impactful performances across Bollywood and South Indian cinema recently discussed the differences between the two industries. During a podcast with Raj Shamani, the actress shed light on why South films have a stronger global appeal compared to Bollywood.
She believes that the success of South Indian films lies in their deep-rooted connection to cultural and traditional values. These films often tell stories that resonate with a wide audience because they are grounded in shared human experiences. This cultural rootedness allows South films to transcend geographical boundaries and connect with audiences worldwide.
Tamannaah explained that South films focus on universal emotions like family relationships, revenge, and loyalty. The storytelling is often centered around familiar human emotions, which makes the films relatable to people from different cultural backgrounds. She noted that these films aren’t just made to cater to a specific section of the audience, but they narrate stories that reflect universal themes.

She said, “The difference I have particularly noticed is that South films talk more in terms of their geographical locations. I think their content is translating globally primarily because they are trying to tell rooted stories. They go for basic human emotions, related to mother, father, revenge on brother, sister, stories that tend to tell many more stories about basic human emotions through different storytelling formats.”
On the other hand, Tamannaah expressed that Bollywood films often aim to appeal to a broad audience, but in doing so, they sometimes lose the depth and authenticity that South Indian films maintain. This may be why some Bollywood films don’t receive the same level of praise.
On the work front, Tamannaah recently appeared in special roles in Stree 2 and Vedaa. She is set to appear in Odela 2 continuing her streak of successful performances across both Bollywood and South Indian cinema.
