Telangana government, in a first, has banned online food aggregators – Swiggy, Zomato services from today until further notice. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao added that companies delivering groceries such as BigBasket and Grofers will be allowed to continue. The state government took the move after food delivery personnel in Delhi was infected with coronavirus. Meanwhile, KCR has extended the lockdown till May 7 without any exemptions as the Coronavirus cases are increasing day by day.
KCR addressing the media on Sunday said that the government was not happy to shutdown online food services as it gets revenue through taxes, but the public health was more important than the revenue. As per the Centre’s guidelines, the online food delivery platforms were so far allowed to function as they were included in the list of essential services. But Telangana government has taken stringent measures in wake of COVID-19 cases.
