Sushmita Sen’s screen presence and aura, when channelised well by a capable director, can be a movie enthusiast’s stuff of dreams. However, barring a few outings, not many filmmakers have tapped her potential to the fullest advantage. The actress, over the last decade, has diverted her focus completely towards her business ventures and has experienced the many joys of motherhood. After a lull, she now returns to the entertainment space with Aarya, a Disney+ Hotstar web series helmed by Neerja fame storyteller Ram Madhvani for his home banner.
The trailer of Aarya had released recently to impressive responses. In the film where she plays a doting mother to a couple of kids alongside Josh actor Chandrachur Singh (who’s also marking a comeback to films), she looks dapper in her corporate look juggling various roles. The series is a thriller in the making when the protagonist played by Sushmita Sen loses one of her beloved to a murder plot. The incident unearths a can of worms including her husband’s involvement in illegal drug trade.
However, towards the end of the trailer, you realise everything is not what meets the eye. Sushmita Sen’s part appears to have several shades of grey and the actress looks extremely fit and confident while essaying it. Disney+ Hotstar has been having a good run with their shows lately – including Special Ops, Hundred, Out of Love besides their superb dark comedy Chappad Phaad Ke. And from what the trailer has to offer, Aarya seems to be a timely addition to their lineup. For all those curious, Aarya releases on June 19.
