Suriya to play THIS mythological role in 500 crore epic
Tamil superstar Suriya has officially been cast in the epic film Karna, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, known for his work on Toofan and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. As per the reports, this film is set to be a massive production with a budget of over 500 crores, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. The movie’s pre-production has already started, with plans to begin shooting in 2025.
Karna is expected to be an ambitious pan-Indian project, with Suriya playing the lead role of Karna, a character from the Indian epic Mahabharata. This marks a significant moment in Suriya’s career as he ventures into larger, more diverse roles, potentially expanding his reach across India and beyond.

Suriya is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film Kanguva, which is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in November 2024. If Kanguva becomes a blockbuster, Suriya’s market value is expected to rise even higher. After Kanguva, Suriya will appear in films directed by Karthik Subbaraj and RJ Balaji, further solidifying his position in Tamil cinema.
Speculation about Karna initially suggested that the project had been shelved, but recent developments have confirmed that the movie is still moving forward. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra hinted at the film’s continuation during an interview at the IIFA awards, giving fans hope that this epic story will soon come to life.
