Sukumar and Ram Gopal Varma might look two contrasting personalities if one observes them from public glare. But there is something that both have in common. The legacy they left behind. Both have touched their peeks in their filmmaking career, perhaps Sukumar has much more to achieve given his commitment and dedication in the field and at the pace he has been working on.
RGV is a maverick in his own way. A filmmaker who changed the way cinema is perceived. He is hailed as a film revolutionary when his debut film ‘Shiva’ hit theatres 30 years ago. Subsequently, his filmmaking style and vision influenced legions of fans including aspiring directors. Thus the likes of Krishna Vamsi and Puri Jagannath emerged into the scene. There used to be a special recognition and treatment for those who worked under RGV back in those days.
Currently, director Sukumar seems to have taken over his position in grooming up young and talent filmmakers. Sukumar’s assistant Buchi Babu was in the reckoning after ‘Uppena’ became a smashing hit. Now Srikanth Odela, who worked under Sukumar during ‘Rangasthalam’ film, has become talk of the town. Others Palnati Suryapratap, Jakka Hariprasad, Vema Reddy among several others are waiting for the right time to take a plunge.
Karthik Dandu is another new chap who is being praised for deft handling of ‘Virupaksha’. The latest release at the box office starring Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha Menon is receiving overwhelming response both from the crowd and critics. Karthik not only brought Sukumar to handle the screenplay, but also made his guru to partner in the film production.
