Despite an initial decent opening day with a collection of 5.85Cr in Kerala and a global total surpassing 12Cr, the film experienced a decline in audience interest, especially on a public holiday. Typically, movies witness a surge on the second day, but the drop in attendance for “Malaikottai Vaaliban” suggests a negative impact from word of mouth and reviews. The weak advance bookings for the upcoming weekend further affirm the film’s struggle.
The movie had garnered attention even before its release, with the team already announcing a sequel. However, given the current outcome, the possibility of a sequel seems bleak. This downturn follows Mohanlal’s recent success with the blockbuster Neru, making the underwhelming performance of Malaikottai Vaaliban a notable setback for the seasoned actor.
Released on January 25, 2024, the period action drama directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery features a star-studded cast including Manikanda Rajan, Sonalee Kulkarni, Andrea Ravera, Hareesh Peradi, Danish Sait, and others.
