Performances
Nikhil plays a larger-than-life role for the first time in his career and he is good. Though he should have bulked up and looked fitter to carry out the role, he has done a good job. More than Nikhil, it is Abhinav Gomatam who plays a great supporting role. He is an actor who suits the best in any role and he is good in the film SPY. Iswarya Menon is also neat in her role but she was limited in her performance.

Analysis
SPY is Nikhil’s biggest film to date and has a good setting. But the one shown in the trailer of Subhash Chandra Bose is a hoax and hardly has any weightage in the film. SPY is the same old routine thriller that does not have anything new to showcase in terms of content. For Nikhil, it is a big film and he has gone all out.
The film is weak in its approach as the action is showcased way too much. At least two fights should have been toned down to make things look better for the audience. Nothing should come as a surprise if one has seen enough movies in the genre. Some of them are, in fact, used in previous flicks and we get bored seeing the same old thing again on screen.
The execution is all over the place, the director remains clueless about building momentum in the storytelling and has a laughable understanding of the universe that constitutes spies, and bureaucracy and reduces national security to a joke. But the presentation is neat as the visuals and production design are great.
Nikhil tries hard to salvage the film there are so many loopholes that it goes out of hand. Every episode gives a feeling that this has been showcased in some film or the other. Such is the predictable nature of the film SPY. If not for Nikhil, SPY would have been even more pathetic and boring to the core.
Bottom Line- Same Old Spy Thriller
