Sorgavaasal, a Tamil prison drama starring RJ Balaji and Selvaraghavan, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 27, 2024. The movie, directed by debutant Sidharth Vishwanath, premiered in theaters on November 29, 2024, and is inspired by the real-life 1999 Madras Central Prison riots.
The film follows the life of a man wrongfully imprisoned. As he struggles with his unjust conviction, he begins to question the true purpose of prisons—whether they reform individuals or push them deeper into a life of crime.

The movie features an ensemble cast, including Natty Subramaniam, Karunas, Samuel Abiola Robinson, Saniya Iyappan, Sharaf U Dheen, and Balaji Sakthivel in significant roles. The film’s music and background score are composed by Christo Xavier, marking his debut in Tamil cinema.
Sorgavaasal has received mixed to positive reviews from audiences and critics for its gripping storyline and strong performances by the lead actors.
RJ Balaji is already working on his next directorial venture, tentatively titled Suriya 45. The film stars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, with music by Sai Abhyankkar. On the other hand, Selvaraghavan is gearing up for his new romantic musical, Mental Manadhil, starring GV Prakash Kumar, who will also compose its music.
