Nazriya Nazim’s return to the screen with the film Sookshmadarshini has been a huge success. The black comedy mystery film has gained both critical praise and commercial success, performing well at the box office. It has also recently premiered on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.
However, it turns out that Nazriya wasn’t the original choice for the role. According to director MC Jithin, Sookshmadarshini was first developed as a script for a Hindi film. Initially, the film was set to be headlined by a prominent Bollywood actress.
In an interview, Jithin explained that a Bollywood producer had approached him to acquire the rights to his debut film, Nonsense, which didn’t perform well in the South but was believed to have potential in Bollywood. However, due to difficulties in securing the rights for Nonsense, Jithin presented the script for Sookshmadarshini instead.
The producers liked the story and were eager to cast a top Bollywood actress for the film. Dates were even secured for the actress to shoot the film. But when the pandemic hit, the plans were disrupted, and the Bollywood producers decided to pull out.
After that, Jithin pitched Sookshmadarshini to several producers in Kerala. It was Samir Thahir who eventually took over the project and helped bring the film to life.
Now, the film is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
