Sonam Kapoor, a popular Bollywood actress known for her roles in movies like Raanjhanaa, Neerja, and Delhi 6 was offered a film by South Indian director Mani Ratnam many years ago. However, she hesitated because of the language difference. Though Sonam never officially confirmed it, there were reports that she was concerned about the potential negative impact.

Her father Anil Kapoor, encouraged her to take the project but she had already made up her mind and declined the offer. When Sonam Kapoor was asked about her decision to star in a regional project, Sonal Kapoor told the media, “I wouldn’t like to comment on working with Mani Ratnam sir.”She added, “But yes, I would love to do something amazing after Players. However, nothing is confirmed yet.”

The movie Sonam turned down was called Kadal, a Tamil drama released in 2013 that was written, directed, and produced by Mani Ratnam. The film starred Gautham Karthik, Arjun Sarja, Arvind Swamy, Thulasi Nair, Lakshmi Manchu, and others. Both Gautham and Thulasi made their debut with this film. The music for Kadal was composed by the legendary A.R. Rahman.

Sonam Kapoor made her debut in 2007 in Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s film Saawariya, opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Despite its poor performance at the box office, the film gained a cult following over time. Following her debut Sonam appeared in various notable films such as Delhi 6, Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Padman. However, she received widespread acclaim for her portrayal of flight attendant Neerja Bhanot in the biographical thriller Neerja.

Currently, Sonam Kapoor has taken a break from acting and is spending time with her family, including her husband Anand Ahuja, and son Vayu.
