More About Sobhita Dhulipala

Born on May 31, 1992, in Andhra Pradesh, Sobhita Dhulipala hails from a Telugu Brahmin family. Her father, Venugopal Rao, is a Merchant Navy engineer, and her mother, Santha Kamakshi, is a primary school teacher. She has a sister, Samantha, who is a radiologist. Dhulipala grew up in Visakhapatnam and later moved to Mumbai at the age of sixteen for her higher studies. She attended H.R. College of Commerce and Economics at the University of Mumbai, where she studied corporate law.

Alongside her studies, Sobhita Dhulipala trained in classical dance forms like Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. She gained early recognition when she was crowned Navy Queen at the Navy Ball in 2010. Her journey into the spotlight began when she participated in the Miss India pageant after a friend suggested she audition. Although she did not make it to the top 20 in Miss Earth 2013, she won titles like Miss Photogenic and Miss Beautiful Face and was featured in the Kingfisher Calendar 2014.

Film Career

Sobhita Dhulipala made her film debut in 2016 with the film Raman Raghav 2.0, starring opposite Vicky Kaushal. Her performance earned her a nomination at the Cannes Film Festival that year. She also signed a three-film deal with Phantom Films. In 2018, she entered the Telugu film industry with Goodachari, where she starred alongside Adivi Sesh.

Dhulipala’s breakthrough came with Amazon Prime’s Made in Heaven in 2019, where she played Tara, a wedding planner. She also appeared in Netflix’s Bard of Blood and made her Malayalam film debut with Moothon, directed by Geetu Mohandas. In The Body, she starred opposite Emraan Hashmi. Her notable roles include playing Vaanathi in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I and Ponniyin Selvan: II. She also starred in The Night Manager with Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.

In 2024, Dhulipala ventured into American cinema with Monkey Man, directed by and starring Dev Patel. Patel had previously expressed his admiration for Dhulipala’s audition, leading to her role in the film.

Facing Rejection and Color Shaming

Despite her success, Sobhita Dhulipala has faced challenges, including color shaming. In interviews, she shared that she was often told she was not “fair enough” during auditions. Dhulipala mentioned that these comments did not deter her, as she found beauty in diversity and was determined to succeed despite the obstacles.

Personal Life

Sobhita Dhulipala recently got engaged to Naga Chaitanya. The engagement was announced on August 8, 2024, by Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya’s father, who shared pictures from the ceremony and expressed joy at welcoming Dhulipala into the family. Naga Chaitanya was previously married to Samantha Ruth Prabhu, but they divorced in 2021.
