Slum Dog Husband is directed by AR Sreedhar and produced by Mic Movies. The film has been released in theatres despite competition from ‘BRO’. Let’s find out if the film has any juice in it or not.
Plot
Lacchi (Sanjay Rao) and Mounika (Pranavi Manukonda) are lovers in a slum in Hyderabad. On the advice of a priest, Lacchi decides to marry a dog named Baby to avoid a Dosham in his horoscope. The dog’s owner files a petition in a court against Lacchi’s decision to marry Mounika a week after marrying Baby. This leads to some unexpected conflicts between the two. How this mess gets solved is the story of Slum Dog Husband.
Performances
Sanjay Rao of ‘O Pitta Katha’ fame shows promise. He doesn’t behave like a commercial hero and his choices are also interesting. In the second half, he gets to do some emotions, especially in the climax. New actress Pranavi Manukonda has a romantic role and she is good despite the absence of typical glamorous songs. Comedian Yadamma Raju plays the male lead’s friend. Brahmaji and Saptagiri are seen as lawyers named Salman Khan and David Mathews, respectively. They are funny. Ali has a cameo, while Raghu Karumanchi is seen as the male lead’s brother-in-law.

Analysis
The basic premise of the film is good. A man marrying a dog for future prospects has been showcased on a decent note. But the lack of seriousness goes against the film n many places. In recent times, films set in Hyderabad have come up with original ideas. We can think of ‘DJ Tillu’ and ‘Jathi Ratnalu’. Although ‘Slum Dog Husband’ has got crazy characters, somehow the situations are not spicy enough.
The human message conveyed in the film is good. There are a few comedy scenes in the courtroom which are executed well. This film needed a better screenplay to do the magic. The absence of a backstory is also welcome but the resolution with which the problem is solved looks outdated and unclear. The courtroom humor should have been more original.
Bheems Ceciroleo’s songs are impressive, especially the ‘baraat’ song in the first half. The second half needed better songs so as to keep the audience enjoying some highs. The cinematography by Srinivas J Reddy is average. The film is set for the most part in regular settings. So, the cinematographer didn’t have much scope to show his talent. The production values are cheap and so is the artwork.
The makers tried hard to keep the film in the news through good promotions and even succeeded a lot. But once the audience comes to the theaters, he will not be impressed much thanks to the boring execution.
Bottom Line- Good Story gone wrong
