Kollywood actor Sivakarthikeyan
Sudha Kongara’s ambitious film Puranaanooru originally featured Suriya as the lead. However, due to various delays, recent reports indicate that Sivakarthikeyan will now take over the lead role, with an agreement already signed. Newcomer Akash Krishnan will produce the film.
Sivakarthikeyan, who recently welcomed his third child, is set to embark on one of the biggest projects in Tamil cinema with Puranaanooru. Sudha Kongara’s previous works have consistently sparked discussions due to their engaging content. Following the moderate success of Ayalaan, Sivakarthikeyan hopes to make a strong comeback with this new venture.

Sudha Kongara, celebrated for her films like Saala Khadoos (Irudhi Suttru), released her last movie, Soorarai Pottru, on Amazon Prime during the COVID-19 pandemic. This film earned Suriya a National Award for Best Actor. A Bollywood remake, titled Sarfira starring Akshay Kumar, has recently been released, with Suriya also playing a role in the remake.
After Soorarai Pottru, Sudha Kongara aimed to create another significant project with Suriya, leading to discussions about Puranaanooru. Although Suriya initially agreed, the project eventually moved away from him for unspecified reasons.
According to Sudha, Puranaanooru is an anti-establishment narrative addressing the sensitive issue of Hindi imposition. Her previous films have also explored themes of resistance and oppression. It is unclear if these themes contributed to Suriya stepping away from the project.
Sivakarthikeyan last film, Ayalaan, was a Sci-Fi movie. He will next appear in Rajkumar Periyasamy’s biographical drama, Amaran, based on the book India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which chronicles the life of Major Mukund Varadharajan, a martyred soldier.
Additionally, Sivakarthikeyan will star in an untitled film by A.R. Murugadoss, featuring Rukmini Vasanth and Biju Menon in significant roles. A.R. Murugadoss is known for directing Ghajini and is currently working on Sikandar, a film starring Salman Khan.
