Shweta Basu Prasad opens up about body shaming by Telugu hero

Shweta Basu Prasad is a talented young actress who made her mark in Telugu cinema with films like Kotha Bangaru Lokam and Ride. She was once a rising star in the industry, but her career didn’t last as long as expected. After facing several challenges, including personal controversies, Shweta took a break from acting in Telugu films. She has now shifted her focus to acting in Hindi web series and OTT movies.

In a recent interview, Shweta opened up about her experiences in Tollywood, particularly about a Telugu hero who body-shamed her. She shared, “I am 5’2″, and the actor I worked with was nearly 6 feet tall. Every time we were on set, he would comment on my height. It was something beyond my control but he kept reminding me of it. Not only him, but others on set also made fun of my height.”

Shweta revealed that these comments were hurtful, but what bothered her even more was how her height became the center of jokes, while the hero’s own flaws went unnoticed. She further stated, “While I couldn’t control my height, I worked hard to perfect my dialogues in Telugu. Despite not being a Telugu girl, I learned the language and delivered my dialogues perfectly. But this hero, who was from Telugu struggled with his lines and wasted several takes.”

Shweta didn’t name the actor involved but mentioned how frustrating it was to be judged based on something she couldn’t change, like her height. “I took pride in learning the language and giving my best performance, but all the attention was focused on my height. It was disheartening,” she added.

Currently, Shweta is busy working on web series and other projects in the OTT space.
