Nayana Suryan, a prominent director in Mollywood, passed away today, February 24 at her Thiruvananthapuram residence. Suryan aged 28 was said to be upset after the demise of her mentor-director Lenin Rajendran, who she assisted for nine-long-years. Reportedly, it was her birthday, and as her parents couldn’t reach out to her, her friends called her over the phone, However, it was after her friend, Merin Mathew, checked at her apartment only to find her dead.
“More friends came in later and with the help of the owner we opened the apartment to find her lying in her room. We immediately took her to the Medical College, though it was too late. She has been dead for seven hours already, they said,” Merin says. The postmortem report has not yet come but it is believed that Nayana had been low on sugar. “She was not taking food properly after Lenin sir’s death and there were previous episodes of suffering from low sugar. Her condition was very bad. But these days she was slowly coming back to normal,” Merin says.
Suryan, who has worked on many noted films, became an independent director with Pakshikalude Maanam in the 2017 anthology film Crossroad. Hailing from Karunagappally has left behind her parents, a brother and sister.
