Doctor killed for promoting handwash. Yes you read it right and may sound bizzare but folks what you’ve read id true. While, washing hands has been exponentially grown now amidst coronavirus pandemic, but a doctor back then in 1847 was beaten to death for sensitize people about hand-wash.
The doctor identified Ignaz Simmelweiss from Hungary realised that the ward he was working in witnessed more deaths of pregnant mothers from other ward. He then found out that doctors tended patients without cleaning their hands which resulted in maternal mortality. However, when he sensitized about handwash none believed him and sent him to lunatic asylum and beat him black and blue. Subsequently, he dies of the injuries.
However, after two deceased the world believed in Ignaz findings and vindicated him of all accusations. In fact, Google , a few days back, honoured Ignaz with a doodle for making aware that hand-wash saves lives.
