Back in the ’60s, veteran Bollywood star Sharmila Tagore sprang a surprise in bikini wear during a scene in her blockbuster film ‘Aradhana’. The topic became controversial in the public domain. It was a shock for audiences and fans, even the film industry was surprised too. There was an uproar in the Indian parliament over the controversial scene in the film.
She shared these insights at an event that happened in the national capital Delhi. The event was titled ‘Breaking the Boundaries: An accidental actor and idol’. Sharmila Tagore said that in order to maintain her reputation as an actress she had to make more content-driven films later.
She further explained how her much-acclaimed film ‘Aradhana’ went on to do business for more than 50 weeks continuously in non-Hindi speaking regions and in entire south India despite the protest flaring up to boycott Hindi in those days.
