Senior South Indian actress Usha Rani passed away today, June 21 in Chennai. She died at at the age of 62 and was undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailment at a private hospital. She is a popular face for Malayalam and Tamil industry. Several celebrities from Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas and Jayasurya among others paid their tributes on social media.
The late actress is survived by son Vishnu Shankar. Having started her career as a child artiste, she went on to act in over 50 Tamil films and starrerd in over 200 Malayalam films. Her last Tamil release was ‘Mannava’ starring Prashant in 1997, while in Malayalam her last release was ‘Mayilattam’ in 2004. She is remembered for her works like – Arangetram, Ennai Pol Oruvan, Mannava, Pathram, Hitler, Swarnakireedam, Mazhayethum Munpe and Kanmadam. She married director Shankaran Nair in 1971 which raised many eyebrows as he was 30-years senior to her. However, the couple led a martial bless until his death in 2005.
