The novel virus COVID has taken an unprecedented attack and situation across the globe. With many lives being lost and health and economy coming to a standstill, the down trodden and people who survive on wages earned thorough daily basis are hard hit. Underscoring how the COVID has made the divide more prevalent, filmmaker Sekhar Kammula adds “the pandemic has brought to the fore is the divide between the haves and the have-nots”.
The Fidaa director further adds that while his kids are taking online classes daily, but there poor out there born to migrant labourers and those doing fringe jobs whose lives are upside down. Speaking abut how the underprivileged should be given with amenities as normalcy is likely to restore he said, “The civil society has done great service in this hour of need no doubt, but I’m afraid it might not be enough. As we set out to restore normalcy, I fervently hope we come out of the bubble we were all living in, disconnected from those less privileged than us, who work ceaselessly to provide the comforts we take for granted, and unite to build a more equitable tomorrow”.
