Lokesh Kanagaraj is in the news yet again after announcing a film where he would be directing actor, singer, filmmaker Kamal Haasan. His debut film, Maanagaram a.k.a Nagaram (in Telugu) is now getting a Hindi remake. Tamil film producer Shibu Thameens will enter Hindi films through the banner and has already made an interesting choice for the director. We hear Santosh Sivan will be wielding the megaphone for the Hindi version of the pacy thriller, which will mark his return to Bollywood after 12 years. His earlier Hindi film Tahaan had starred Anupam Kher, Sarika, Rahul Bose, Rahul Khanna and Victor Banerjee in key roles.
Maanagaram is a riveting thriller that unfolds over a night’s span and revolves around the story of four youngsters in Chennai, featuring Sriram Natarajan, Sundeep Kishan and Regina Cassandra in lead parts. Though the film didn’t make a huge noise at the ticket window, it enjoyed critical appreciation. The remake, expectedly, will shift this setting to Mumbai and Vikrant Massey, who’s been part of films like Cargo, Chhapaak, Dolly Kitty aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare will be reprising the role played by Sriram Natarajan.
The film’s original screenplay written by Lokesh Kanagaraj has been adapted by Amit Joshi (Trapped) and Aradhana Debnath. The remake is set to go on floors later this year or the first half of 2021. It’s worth reminding that another Lokesh Kanagaraj film Kaithi is also having a Hindi remake with Ajay Devgn playing the lead role. Besides that, Lokesh has also announced a film with actor Suriya in the lead. The young filmmaker is growing by leaps and bounds despite having only 2 releases and one completed film that’s awaiting to hit theatres (Master).
