Two upcoming Indian movies, Kalki 2898 AD and Kanguva, seem to share a similar storyline, sparking discussions among movie enthusiasts. In Prabhas Kalki 2898 AD, the character Bhairava(portrayed by Prabhas), born from Lord Vishnu’s element, embarks on a journey spanning centuries from the time of Mahabharata to the futuristic year 2898 AD. Similarly, in Kanguva, a forest tribe warrior (portrayed by Suriya) from 1678 finds himself in 2024 as a research student to complete his mission. This parallel storyline means actors like Prabhas and Surya will showcase diverse roles and styles in both films.
Although the backgrounds differ, the central themes align closely, reminiscent of previous movies like Kalyan Ram’s Bimbisara and Balakrishna’s Aditya 369. Meanwhile Chiranjeevi’s upcoming film Vishwambhara is also said to have the time travel concept.
Kalki 2898 AD is set to hit screens before Kanguva, with a tentative release date of May 9, despite potential election clashes. Director Nag Ashwin is reportedly striving to meet this deadline, indicating a strong commitment from the production team. However, no official announcement has been made regarding the release date for Kanguva, although the producers aim for a summer release. The film boasts the largest budget in Kollywood, helmed by director Siruthai Siva.
These movies promise audiences an intriguing blend of mythology, time travel, and adventure, with talented actors bringing their characters to life across different eras. While similarities between the two plots have sparked debates, fans eagerly anticipate the unique narratives and visual spectacles each film is poised to offer.
