Despite facing disappointment with his recent films, Adipurush and Radheshyam, Prabhas continues to enjoy unwavering popularity. His star power remains untarnished, and his forthcoming movie is creating an exceptional level of excitement and buzz.
Prabhas’ highly anticipated mega-budget film, Salaar, is generating immense anticipation and is scheduled for a grand release on December 22nd. The buzz around the film is so intense that the distribution rights for the Telugu regions have been acquired for a staggering ₹175 crore. However, this remarkable deal comes with a significant challenge for the movie to live up to.
To ensure that distributors can recover their investments and make a profit, Salaar needs to gross approximately ₹300-325 crore in the Telugu states during its run. This is a significant challenge, reminiscent of Prabhas’ previous film, Adipurush, which, despite being sold for ₹115 crore in the Telugu states, fell short of expectations, resulting in losses.
Salaar faces a similar situation, and unless it receives exceptional acclaim like “Baahubali,” recouping such a substantial investment will be a formidable task. The risk is high, with potential losses outweighing marginal profits for distributors.
On the other hand, the production company, Hombale Films, is set to earn around 500 crores solely from the sale of theatrical rights. However, when considering Prabhas and director Prashant Neel’s fees, production costs, and other expenses, it’s expected that the production company will achieve only modest profits, nothing exceptional.
The success benchmark for Salaar, is undeniably high. To be regarded as a true success, the film must achieve a minimum worldwide gross of ₹1000 crore. This substantial figure is the yardstick against which everyone involved in the project, from the producers to the distributors, will measure its triumph. Anything less than this ambitious target would mean the film falls short of its colossal expectations.
