Veteran actor John Vijay who appeared in the movie “Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire” alongside Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women. Singer and voice actress Chinmayi Sripaada posted screenshots on social media where one of the victims referred to Vijay as a ‘menace.’
Chinmayi highlighted a report by The News Minute which discussed sexual assault cases in Malayalam cinema and mentioned John Vijay’s misconduct towards a journalist. She added that other women have also come forward to speak about his inappropriate behavior.
During the #MeToo movement in 2018, several women accused Vijay of sexual harassment. Notably, VJ, RJ, and singer Sriranjini called him out for his behavior. Chinmayi praised Sriranjini for sharing her story, revealing that three other girls had also narrated their own experiences with Vijay. She encouraged more victims to speak up regardless of Vijay’s connections or friendships.

In an interview in 2018, John Vijay addressed the allegations describing himself as a transparent person who often speaks candidly without any ill intentions. He acknowledged that his jokes might sometimes come across as insensitive and that he withdraws from situations where he feels misunderstood. He expressed his regret for any hurt his comments may have caused, stating that this experience has taught him to be more mindful of his words. Vijay also voiced his support for the #MeToo movement asserting that he would have been among the first to support it if he had not been implicated.
Despite his statements, the allegations against Vijay continue to resonate as more victims come forward to share their experiences.
