Sai Dharam Tej’s forthcoming film, Gaanja Shankar, has attracted the attention of the Telangana State Anti Narcotics Bureau, leading to a notice urging the removal of scenes glamourizing drug use. This highlights the regulatory scrutiny the movie is currently facing.

The action-packed entertainer, directed by Sampath Nandi and produced by Sithara Entertainment, came under scrutiny as the Anti Narcotics Bureau expressed concerns about scenes depicting drug usage in a glamorous light. Sandeep Shandilya, Director of the Telangana State Anti-Narcotic Bureau, emphasized the need to adhere to laws prohibiting the promotion of drug use.

Shandilya raised concerns about the movie’s trailer, suggesting a potential connection between the protagonist’s leafy vegetable business and Ganja cultivation. The notice cited legal provisions, including Section 8 of the NDPS Act 1985, prohibiting the cultivation, sale, or use of narcotic substances.

The Bureau stressed the impact of movies, especially on the youth, and urged filmmakers to handle scenes related to narcotics carefully. The notice advised against portraying the use, sale, trading, and distribution of Narcotic Ganja as heroic, emphasizing the negative influence on the younger generation.

Furthermore, the filmmakers were instructed to change the movie’s title by removing the word “Ganja.” Legal consequences under the NDPS Act 1985 were warned if objectionable scenes persisted.

The notices were sent to lead actor Sai Dharam Tej, producer S. Nagavamshi, and director Sampath Nandi. Copies were marked to the Presidents of the Telugu Film Producers Council, Telugu Film Directors Association, and the Movie Artist Association.

About “Ganja Shankar,” the film marks Sai Dharam Tej’s return after collaborating with Pawan Kalyan. Directed by Sampath Nandi, the smuggling drama with commercial elements is produced by Sithara Entertainment and Fortune Four Cinemas, aiming to build on the success of their recent venture, “Mad.” Bheems Ceciroleo is composing the film’s music, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.
