Paurashpur is a kingdom where women are treated as sex objects. The men do the talking and the man who heads the show is king Bhanu Pratap(Annu Kapoor). This old king marries young queens just for the sake of pleasure. Once he is done sleeping with them, he tries hard to kick them out. But after a point, the queens who he marries start to go missing. Who is behind all this and is trying to defame the king is the story of Paurashpur.
The series is filled with some very noted faces but all of them ham like there is no tomorrow. But the men who make the series at least watchable are Anu Kapoor and Milind Soman. Annu Kapoor as the lusty and greedy king is top-notch. He brings all his experience in his career for his role and was so good to see. Though he looks vulgar romancing young heroines, his acting part was good. The same is the case with Milind Soman as well. He too as a transgender does a crazy job and has a major role to play in the series.
The costume drama is solid on the paper but when it comes to its execution part, it sucks. There is no flow in the proceedings and this where the major issues arise in the series. The setup and the story and creativity seem to be utilized to only further that titillation rather than provide an engaging narrative. Paurashpur soon after its start gets into the ‘its-so-bad-that-it-is-fun’ zone. The sleazy content and its delivery everything adds up.
