The previous government led by the YSR Congress made a controversial decision regarding government school teachers in Andhra Pradesh. As part of the Nadu Nedu program, teachers were instructed to monitor and report on the cleanliness of school toilets. Specifically, they had to take photographs of the toilets every morning and send them to higher authorities. This directive was heavily criticized because it placed an inappropriate burden on teachers, who are meant to focus on educating students rather than engaging in such tasks.
The intention behind ensuring clean school facilities was good, but the implementation method was widely considered disrespectful to teachers, who hold respected positions in society. Recognizing this issue, the new IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh, promised to remove this responsibility from teachers and has now fulfilled that commitment.
The government of Andhra Pradesh has officially relieved teachers from this duty. Going forward, Secretariat employees will be responsible for managing and monitoring the cleanliness of school toilets. Teachers are no longer required to start their day by taking pictures of toilets and sending them for inspection.
This move by Lokesh has been widely welcomed by the teaching community, who felt the previous mandate was an unnecessary and demeaning task. By taking this step, Lokesh has delivered on his promise, much to the relief and satisfaction of teachers across the state.
