Since the release of the film ‘Animal,’ there has been significant criticism on social media about its portrayal of women.

Rashmika Mandanna known for frequently interacting with her fans online recently responded to a fan’s comment regarding her character Geetanjali in ‘Animal.’ In the movie, she plays the wife of Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Ranvijay Singh. A fan commented that there is “nothing scarier” than trusting a man, prompting Rashmika to offer a correction.

On the social media platform X, a fan posted an edited clip from ‘Animal.’ In the video, Rashmika’s character suffers because she trusted a man who ultimately betrayed her. The fan explained how Rannvijay had a devoted wife in Geetanjali but pursued an affair with another character, Zoya played by Triptii Dimri. This betrayal deeply hurts Geetanjali in the film.

The fan shared the video with the caption, “Remember nothing is scarier than trusting a man…” Rashmika noticed this post and responded, “Correction: trusting a stupid man = scary… there are a lot of good men also out there. trusting those men = special.

‘Animal,’ released on December 1, 2023, focuses on a troubled man and his toxic relationship with his father. In the film, Vijay, played by Ranbir Kapoor, is depicted as an anti-hero willing to do anything to protect his father, even killing 200 people with a machine gun. Despite his efforts, he fails to win his emotionally distant father’s approval, portrayed by Anil Kapoor. The movie was a commercial success, earning over Rs 900 crore worldwide. However, it faced criticism for being labeled toxic and misogynistic.

Rashmika addressed these criticisms during an appearance on Neha Dhupia’s podcast, where she explained that ‘Animal’ is about a character who is mentally disturbed. She described the film as raw and realistic, asserting that people should appreciate it for what it is.

“He’s messed in the head and will go to any lengths for his father. That was clear to me while filming. It’s his story, and if you want films to be raw, real, and correct, ‘Animal’ is that. After watching it, if you enjoyed it, just leave it,” Rashmika said.

Looking ahead, Rashmika Mandanna will star in ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule,’ alongside Allu Arjun. The film is set to release in theaters on August 15, 2024.
