Actress Rashmika Mandanna recently found herself embroiled in controversy after expressing admiration for India’s progress under the current government. Her praise for the Atal Setu bridge, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparked a debate about her alleged bias towards a particular political party.
In January, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the Atal Setu bridge, hailed as India’s largest sea link bridge, connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai. Rashmika Mandanna commended the bridge’s impact, applauding its role in reducing a two-hour commute to a mere 20 minutes. She voiced optimism about India’s infrastructural growth, attributing it to visionary planning and execution.
However, Rashmika’s remarks triggered a backlash on social media during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Critics argued that the bridge project was initiated by the previous Congress government, not the current administration. Some accused her of insensitivity, citing a recent tragedy in Mumbai where 14 people lost their lives due to a hoarding collapse. Others questioned her credibility to advise voters, pointing out that she hadn’t participated in the ongoing elections herself. Moreover, allegations surfaced regarding her involvement in paid promotions for the government.
