Ramyakrishna’s character in Narasimha inspired by former CM; deets inside
In a recent revelation, renowned South Indian director KS Ravikumar opened up about the inspiration behind the character of Neelambari from the iconic 1999 movie Narasimha. This particular character played by actress Ramyakrishna has become a significant part of the film’s success but it turns out there’s more to the character than meets the eye.
Ravikumar disclosed that the role of Neelambari was inspired by none other than a former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The connection between the character and the political figure has remained a secret for over 26 years. According to the director, it was none other than the late J. Jayalalithaa, the former Chief Minister who inspired the creation of Neelambari. This was a surprise to many as the film was seen as a straightforward action-packed entertainer, with Rajinikanth in the lead role and a strong supporting cast.
Narasimha directed by KS Ravikumar starred Rajinikanth in the role of a mechanical engineer named Narasimhaa who returns to his village and falls in love with a woman named Vasundhara played by actress Soundarya. However, the twist in the plot comes with the character of Neelambari, portrayed by Ramyakrishna. She is an ambitious and powerful woman, whose actions are pivotal to the story’s progression.
Ravikumar recently shared that Jayalalithaa’s larger-than-life persona and political power were the key elements that influenced the characterization of Neelambari. The director revealed that during the making of the film, Jayalalithaa had watched Narasimha and was impressed with Ramyakrishna’s portrayal of Neelambari, saying that the character was a reflection of her own strength and resilience.
The movie Narasimha not only had a powerful storyline but also boasted of a star-studded cast that included the legendary Rajinikanth, Soundarya, and many other notable actors. Ramyakrishna’s portrayal of Neelambari stood out as one of the most memorable villainous roles in South Indian cinema.
